Battlefield 6 is preparing for a high-flying collaboration. EA announced that the military shooter will host a Top Gun-themed event next month, bringing aerial combat modes and thematic cosmetics to the game alongside the launch of Season 4.
The crossover will lean heavily on the franchise's fighter pilot aesthetic. While character skins based on specific actors remain uncertain due to licensing complexities, the developer is expected to offer pilot suits, flight jackets, and other aviation-inspired cosmetics that capture the Top Gun universe without requiring individual likenesses.
More substantially, the event introduces new gameplay modes designed around aerial engagement. Carrier Strike reimagines the classic Carrier Assault mode for naval-focused combat, requiring players to coordinate attacks and defenses around aircraft carriers using jets and helicopters. Fighter Sweep offers a jets-only competitive experience, stripping away ground-based combat entirely.
A two-seat jet is being added to Season 4, enabling players to fly with a wingman into combat. This addition directly supports the Top Gun theme of coordinated dogfighting, allowing duo players to operate as an integrated aerial team.
Season 4 itself centers on naval warfare and launches next week with two new multiplayer maps. One is a reimagined version of Wake Island, designed to be the largest map in the game to date. The expanded scale addresses longtime player requests for maps with greater scope and tactical depth.
EA has not yet detailed the full roster of cosmetics or revealed specific event dates beyond the August window. The publisher plans to share additional information as the crossover launch approaches.
Author Emily Chen: "The two-seat jet is the real story here, the kind of feature that actually changes how squads play together rather than just slapping a Navy uniform on an operator."
