Insomniac Games is breaking a years-long content drought for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, delivering a free suit based on the upcoming Brand New Day film starting July 28th.
The suit draws directly from the Brand New Day movie, which features a hybrid design blending costumes from the three live-action Spider-Man actors: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. During production, Holland actively solicited fan feedback on the design through social media, leading to refinements that will carry over into the video game version.
The film's new trailer dropped today alongside ticket pre-sales, signaling an action-packed storyline ahead. Questions linger around cast member Sadie Sink's role, though speculation points to Jean Grey. She has joined the press tour but has remained largely silent due to character secrecy.
This marks the first update to Spider-Man 2 since its 2023 launch. Unlike the original game and its Miles Morales spin-off, Spider-Man 2 released with zero DLC content. Whether Insomniac plans additional post-launch support remains unclear. A potential connection exists to next summer's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse release, which could unlock more suit additions.
The studio has already ruled out Spider-Man appearing in the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine title. However, Insomniac is widely expected to develop another standalone Spider-Man game, though industry observers anticipate a wait of at least one to two years before any announcement materializes. A launch title slot for PlayStation 6 could be in the cards, similar to how Miles Morales debuted alongside the PS5.
Author Emily Chen: "After years of radio silence, even a single free suit feels like a genuine win for a game that deserved more attention from its publisher."
