Behaviour Interactive pulled the curtain back on its Dead by Daylight 10th anniversary plans, and the asymmetrical horror game that launched in June 2016 is far from done. The broadcast confirmed Jason Voorhees is finally entering The Fog after years of licensing negotiations, while announcing a slate of new Chapters, crossovers, and a feature film that's moving forward with an established director.
The most immediate news centers on The Life Road Chapter, set to launch June 25. The update introduces Shane Wiigwaas, the game's first Indigenous Survivor, portrayed by Dallas Goldtooth from Reservation Dogs and Fallout. This follows Jason's arrival by roughly a week, giving players fresh content to work with as they adjust to the long-awaited Killer.
Dead by Daylight's expansion into Hollywood took a concrete step forward when Blumhouse head Jason Blum and the game's chief product officer Stephen Mulrooney announced that Thordur Palsson has signed on to direct the film adaptation. Palsson, who worked on The Damned and The Valhalla Murders, will helm a project with a completed screenplay by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Palsson emphasized his focus on translating the gameplay experience to screen. "The main thing is I want to capture the feeling of looking over your shoulder. I want to capture the dread, the tension, the fear of what's waiting for you in The Fog," he said. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, and the film will feature recognizable locations like The MacMillan Estate and Greenville.
The broadcast also detailed expansions to existing licensed partnerships. The Walking Dead is getting two new Legendary outfits for Rick Grimes: Glenn and Negan, arriving in August and 2027 respectively. Silent Hill content will expand in June with a Cheryl outfit that transforms her into Silent Hill f protagonist Shimizu Hinako, followed by a Nurse outfit for The Spirit coming next year.
New crossovers are also on the horizon. Horror metalcore band Ice Nine Kills is launching an in-game Collection within days, complete with a brand-new Dead by Daylight-themed track and music video. Iron Maiden, celebrating its 50th anniversary, will receive an Eddie Legendary outfit for The Huntress. Further ahead, Diablo and Scooby-Doo collections are coming to Dead by Daylight, with Lilith arriving as a Legendary outfit for The Artist and Mystery Inc. themed cosmetics appearing for Scooby-Doo.
A December mall map, inspired by liminal space aesthetics and built from community feedback, will weave lore connections for longtime characters including Dwight. The Casting of Frank Stone, Behaviour's narrative spinoff created with Supermassive Games, will also receive its own Chapter sometime in 2027.
Behaviour reiterated during the broadcast that Dead by Daylight 2 remains off the table. The studio said it plans to keep investing in the original game to maintain its relevance and freshness rather than pursuing a sequel.
Author Emily Chen: "Ten years in, Dead by Daylight's survival strategy is clearer than ever: keep the base game evolving while stacking licensed content until something sticks culturally, and for horror fans, that's proven to be an irresistible formula."
