The Merchant is back in Resident Evil Requiem, at least for PC players willing to install a mod. The gravelly-voiced vendor from Resident Evil 4 was conspicuously absent from the ninth mainline entry in the survival horror franchise, replaced by a plain supply box. Now a modder has brought the character back to life.
Nexus Mods user fanteeek created the modification, which swaps the generic inventory box for the iconic purple-robed salesman during Leon's campaign. A video of the mod circulating on social media over the weekend showed the Merchant greeting players with his trademark welcoming line before offering the same weapons and upgrades available in the base game.
The Merchant has long been a standout character in the series. His quotable dialogue and distinctive presence made him memorable to players, and his omission from Requiem clearly left a void. The original Resident Evil 4 is widely considered one of gaming's finest achievements, and much of its appeal stemmed from a cast of characters that stuck with audiences long after the credits rolled.
Fanteeek's version pulls the character model and basic appearance from the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake. Currently, the mod includes only the single welcome audio clip, but the creator has indicated plans to expand the Merchant's dialogue and add more animations in future updates.
Resident Evil Requiem launched on February 27, 2026, across PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Capcom has confirmed at least one story expansion is in development, along with a new mini-game expected to arrive soon as post-launch content. For now, players waiting to see if the publisher has any official plans to reintegrate the Merchant may want to give the mod a try.
Author Emily Chen: "The Merchant deserved better than a cardboard box, and this mod proves the community won't let Capcom forget what made RE4 special."
