Arc System Works has locked in two heavyweight fighters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, officially confirming Savage Hulk and Shuri's Black Panther as part of the game's roster. The developer revealed the news at Evo Japan 2026, giving fans their first real look at how these iconic Marvel characters will play when the fighting game drops this August.
Both characters join the Fighting Avengers faction. Along with them comes a new stage set in Wakanda and the introduction of The Champion, a cosmic conqueror described as searching across Earth for worthy opponents to battle.
But the real intrigue came at the tail end of the announcement trailer, where sharp-eyed players spotted something developers may have left intentionally buried. As a familiar symbiote snarl plays over the final moments, the screen distorts. Freeze the footage at the right frame and Spider-Man's face appears scratched out. More telling still: numbers appear in the bottom left corner, with "361" standing out clearly to eagle-eyed fans.
That number holds weight in Marvel lore. The Amazing Spider-Man #361 marked Carnage's first full appearance, a detail that has sent speculation racing through the fighting game community. While some initially assumed the symbiote tease might point to Venom, the evidence surrounding the scratched-out Spider-Man and the issue number points heavily toward Carnage as the next reveal.
Arc System Works has not officially confirmed any symbiote fighter yet, so the teasing remains speculation backed by circumstantial clues. The studio clearly knows how to build anticipation, having already shown off X-Men like Wolverine and Storm earlier in the marketing cycle.
Marvel Tokon launches August 6, 2026, for PC and PlayStation 5. Playable demos will be available starting May 22 at Combo Breaker 2026 and May 29 at Hong Kong Comic Con 2026. The game's roster is expected to expand through DLC after release.
Author Emily Chen: "A scratched Spider-Man face and a single comic book issue number shouldn't carry this much weight, but Arc System Works knows exactly what they're doing with this tease."
