Jennifer English is departing her role as the voice of Gwendolyn, the protagonist in Eclipse Glow Games' upcoming action adventure Tides of Annihilation, citing personal health concerns. The studio announced the departure on July 17, 2026, roughly 16 months after the game debuted at Sony's February 2025 State of Play event.
English notified the developer in early June that she could no longer continue with the project. The actress will transition to an advisory capacity on the title, remaining involved with the production while stepping back from the voice work.
"While we were, of course, saddened by her decision, we completely understood and respected Jennifer in prioritizing her well-being," Eclipse Glow Games wrote in a statement posted to the game's official social media. The studio emphasized English's professionalism throughout the transition, noting she worked with other cast members to identify a replacement performer who could carry the character forward authentically.
A successor has been locked in, selected on the recommendation of English and fellow voice actors. Eclipse Glow Games described the incoming talent as someone whose recent industry work "left a strong impression on both Jennifer and our team, not only for the performance itself, but for the remarkable care and dedication she showed in understanding the character." The new voice actor's identity has not yet been disclosed.
Fans will hear the replacement's interpretation of Gwendolyn for the first time during the playable demo launching at Gamescom 2026 in August. The new voice actor is currently recording lines for that demo and select official updates planned for the game's channels around the same timeframe.
Eclipse Glow Games took the opportunity to praise English's contributions. "Her performance brought depth, strength, vulnerability, and heart to the role," the studio said, adding that the journey with her on the project had been meaningful.
Tides of Annihilation casts players in modern-day London transformed by magical forces rooted in Arthurian legend. Gwendolyn battles supernatural threats with assistance from spectral versions of the Knights of the Round Table. The narrative-driven single-player game emphasizes intense combat sequences alongside an immersive story, though no official release window has been announced. Chengdu-based Eclipse Glow Games has been steadily promoting the project with cinematics, boss fight footage, and development insights leading up to its Gamescom debut.
Author Emily Chen: "It's encouraging to see a studio and departing talent handle this transition with such mutual respect, and getting the new voice actor's work in front of players at Gamescom should give real momentum to the game."
