Modern Warfare 4 Preorders Live: Here's What Each Edition Costs and Includes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrives October 23, and preorders are now open across multiple platforms and retailers. Activision has structured the release with three main editions, each offering different perks and price points for players eager to jump in on day one.

The Standard Edition runs $69.99 in both physical and digital formats across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Physical copies are available at Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, and Target, while digital versions live on the PlayStation Store, Xbox platform, Steam, and Amazon. Some retailers are sweetening the deal with exclusive bonuses: Amazon throws in 5 hours of Double XP, and GameStop offers a steel trading card exclusive to their preorders.

Best Buy is the sole retailer offering a Steelbook Edition, priced identically at $69.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X physical copies. The special packaging doesn't cost extra, but availability may be limited depending on store stock.

For players wanting maximum content upfront, the Vault Edition sits at $99.99 for digital purchases only. This tier bundles early access to the Open Beta, the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, the Special Forces Operator Pack, a signature weapon collection, one season of Blackcell currency, and a DMZ deployment bonus. Activision is offering a 10% discount on Vault Edition preorders for players who owned or played previous Call of Duty titles dating back to 2019's Modern Warfare through Black Ops 6, provided they preorder on the same platform and account. A $30 upgrade path from Standard to Vault Edition also exists on Xbox and Steam for those who decide later.

All preorder tiers unlock early Open Beta access, a significant perk for competitive players wanting practice time before launch. Physical preorders require redemption of a beta code at callofduty.com/redeem, while digital buyers are automatically registered. Digital edition owners get an extra week of campaign early access starting October 16, seven days before the full release.

The Hunter Killer Operator Skin ships with digital preorders and will work across Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Modern Warfare 4 itself. This cross-game functionality reflects Activision's integrated cosmetic ecosystem.

A notable absence: Modern Warfare 4 is skipping Game Pass at launch and won't appear on previous-generation consoles. However, Activision confirmed the game is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, marking the franchise's first appearance on a Switch system, with preorders opening separately.

Infinity Ward's campaign follows a dual narrative: young South Korean soldiers defending their homeland during a full-scale North Korean invasion, paired with Captain Price executing a shadowy personal vendetta across the globe. Early multiplayer impressions highlight a design philosophy long constrained by last-generation hardware finally breaking free, with expanded maps and features Infinity Ward has been building toward for years.

Author Emily Chen: "The pricing stays flat across editions, so retailers are the real play here if you want bonuses without overpaying."
