RuneScape: Dragonwilds is heading to consoles on September 15, 2026, arriving for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The open-world survival game marks the franchise's first full console debut and lands in a release window already crowded with major titles.
September 2026 has become the dumping ground for publishers racing to clear their schedules before Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives in November. Marvel's Wolverine, Control Resonant, and Silent Hill: Townfall are all competing for attention in the same month, and now Jagex's RuneScape spinoff has joined the fray.
The game has already been in early access on PC and has accumulated over 1 million sales during that period. The full 1.0 launch will include the new Scorned Wilderness update plus all content from the Umbral Sands expansion, scheduled to roll out later this summer.
Unlike the browser-based MMORPG that spawned it, Dragonwilds is a standalone co-op experience where players venture across the continent of Ashenfall either solo or in teams of four. The gameplay loop centers on exploration, crafting, survival mechanics, and magic use. Players level skills, brew potions, craft equipment, and engage dragons across a landscape designed around anima-rich magic systems that serve both combat and utility purposes.
The story tasks players with uncovering why transformative magic has fractured the land, culminating in a confrontation with the Dragon Queen herself.
Dragonwilds will launch day one on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, giving subscribers immediate access without a separate purchase. The game represents Jagex's attempt to expand the RuneScape IP beyond its decades-old MMORPG roots and capture console players who may never have touched the original.
Author Emily Chen: "Another heavyweight entering September's gauntlet was inevitable, but betting a spinoff over the flagship is a bold move when everyone's eyes are already on GTA 6."
