IO Interactive and Saber Interactive are teaming up to resurrect three landmark assassin games for modern hardware. Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered will bring the original three entries in the franchise to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S sometime in 2027, the Copenhagen-based studio announced during its recent showcase.
The collection bundles Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, and Hitman: Contracts with a full visual overhaul. New character models, high-resolution textures, and rebuilt environments aim to refresh the games while keeping their mission structure and systems intact. A graphics toggle will let players switch between visual modes on the fly, and a new photo mode will let fans capture their handiwork.
IO Interactive positioned the remaster as a chance for new players to experience the games that shaped the franchise's identity. "Whether you're reliving these thrilling contracts or suiting up for the first time, Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered is the definitive way to experience the beginnings of Agent 47," the studio said in a description. The games preserve the multi-path design that became the series trademark, giving players dozens of ways to complete each contract with different tools and tactics.
Before-and-after screenshots on the Steam page show the scale of the visual work, with classic locations rendered in far greater detail than their original versions. The studio hasn't locked in a specific launch date within the 2027 window, but the Steam page gives interested players a place to track updates.
Nintendo Switch owners won't be playing this remaster. IO Interactive and Saber left the hybrid console and upcoming Switch 2 off the platform list without explaining the decision or suggesting whether a port might come later. However, IO Interactive didn't entirely shut out Nintendo fans during its showcase. The studio plans to bring a new Contracts mode to Hitman: Absolution for the original Switch very soon, with a full Switch 2 upgrade arriving this summer.
The timing underscores IO Interactive's current momentum. The studio just released 007 First Light to market the remaster launch, continuing its winning streak after the recent World of Assassination trilogy. Returning to the games that established the studio's reputation makes business sense while the brand is hot.
Author Emily Chen: "Remastering the originals now, when modern Hitman is finally winning wider audiences, could introduce a whole generation to where the series started and why it mattered."
