Capcom has released a playable demo for Resident Evil Requiem, arriving roughly a quarter-year after the game hit shelves in February. The trial is now available on PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, plus PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
The demo opens with Grace Ashcroft's disorienting entrance at the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, where she wakes suspended upside down. It also includes an early Leon sequence that concludes when he hands over the Requiem gun to Grace. The slice gives players a genuine feel for both protagonists and introduces one of the game's standout enemies.
Save data from the demo does not carry over to the full release, Capcom noted. The publisher positioned the demo as a way for prospective buyers to test performance on their hardware, particularly on Switch 2, where the game has proven to run surprisingly well despite the newer console's capabilities.
Resident Evil Requiem has already become a commercial juggernaut, surpassing 7 million copies sold worldwide. That success boosted Capcom's financial guidance for the year. Critics have embraced it too, with outlets like IGN awarding it a 9/10.
Capcom released a smaller roguelike mode called Leon Must Die Forever earlier this month as a free add-on. But player anticipation is firmly fixed on the full story DLC planned for later this year. A cryptic question lingers: what is Leon's mysterious new piece of jewelry, and what role will it play in the expanded narrative?
Author Emily Chen: "Three months is an eternity in gaming cycles, but the demo's arrival at least gives fence sitters a real chance to see if Requiem deserves its hype."
