ChatGPT now pulls your company's secrets into conversations

OpenAI is rolling out a feature that lets ChatGPT tap directly into your organization's internal knowledge, transforming the AI chatbot from a general-purpose tool into something customized for your business.

The new capability, called company knowledge, connects ChatGPT to your existing apps and databases so the AI can surface answers grounded in your actual business context. When you ask a question, the responses come with clear citations pointing back to the original source, so you can verify where the information came from.

Security and privacy sit at the center of the design. OpenAI has built in controls that let administrators manage who can access what information, and the company has structured the system to protect sensitive data. Employees get answers tailored to their role and permissions, not a one-size-fits-all response.

The rollout is available now for Business, Enterprise, and Education users. The move positions ChatGPT as an alternative to enterprise search tools and internal knowledge bases, letting companies consolidate how employees find answers without swapping between multiple platforms.

For IT teams, the admin controls mean they can govern company knowledge access the same way they manage other applications, setting boundaries around what the AI can see and what employees can retrieve.

Author Emily Chen: "This turns ChatGPT from a generic question-answerer into an actual enterprise tool, but the real test is whether companies will trust it with their crown jewels."
