Monopoly Gets the F1 Treatment: Race for Championships This Summer

Hasbro is bringing Formula 1 to the board game table with a new Monopoly edition launching July 15, 2026, at $39.99. The collaboration reimagines the classic property game around the high-stakes world of Grand Prix racing, letting players choose their favorite F1 team and compete for championships instead of accumulating wealth.

The game supports 2 to 6 players aged 8 and up. Each team carries distinct abilities that trigger when rolling an F1 symbol on the die. McLaren players, for instance, can either jump immediately to the next race or move spaces according to a red die roll. Other teams in the roster include Mercedes-AMG Petronas, Oracle Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Ferrari HP, Atlassian Williams Racing, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, Aston Martin Aramco, Haas, Audi Revolut, BWT Alpine, and Cadillac.

Competition centers on the Monopoly Grand Prix, an M-shaped course running through the middle of the board where players move helmets instead of standard game pieces. The first player to cross the finish line wins the Driver's Championship. Alternatively, players can claim victory by earning the most points toward the Constructors' Championship.

Winning races requires head-to-head rolls of two dice: a white one and a red one. Higher roll takes the property. Players can also upgrade their vehicles mid-game with new Front Wings that add two points to race rolls or Soft Tires that add four points when starting or finishing movement in the red zone of the grand prix.

The game is now available for pre-order on Walmart.com. Billy Lagor, president of Toys and Board Games at Hasbro, framed the release as a natural fit for fans of either franchise. "Formula 1 is one of the most iconic sports properties in the world, and we're excited to bring the adrenaline of race day into a game night experience," he said, emphasizing that the design captures "the circuits, the rivalries, the relentless pursuit of the podium" while maintaining the recognizable Monopoly framework.

Author Emily Chen: "This is the kind of licensed board game adaptation that actually understands both properties - it's not just Monopoly with F1 slapped on top, it's a race game that happens to use Monopoly's bones."
