Sara Duffey, a 43-year-old content creator known to her tens of thousands of TikTok followers as mrsgilson, was found dead from gunshot wounds Thursday evening at her home in Collinsville, Oklahoma, in what police believe was a murder-suicide carried out by her 48-year-old husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey.
The deaths came just twelve days after Sara posted a video to her social media account in which she revealed allegations that Jeremiah had sexually abused a minor. In the clip, she sat facing the camera with text overlaid reading, "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile." The post, which has since accumulated roughly 15 million views, concluded with her writing, "I wish I was joking."
Police received an emergency call at 11:15 p.m. from inside the home. A woman could be heard screaming followed by what sounded like a gunshot. A second call came moments later from a neighbor's house, placed by a boy who reported that his stepfather had shot his mother. Officers arrived to find both Sara and Jeremiah dead from gunshot wounds. Police said all evidence pointed to Jeremiah shooting Sara before taking his own life.
Sara's son was placed in the custody of an uninvolved parent.
The shooting occurred less than two months after Sara sought a protective order on June 10 against Jeremiah, filing to keep him away from their home. That same day, another woman filed for a protective order on behalf of her daughter, alleging that Jeremiah had engaged in inappropriate contact with the girl. Court filings detail that Jeremiah, who was working as a youth basketball coach, was caught by another coach kissing and fondling the child. According to legal documents, the girl told her mother that Jeremiah had sent her inappropriate text messages, invited her to a hotel room, and given her money "to keep her quiet." Those allegations were reported to police in the nearby city of Owasso.
Sara's protective order filing referenced the same accusations but added that Jeremiah possessed a firearm, had threatened suicide, and had fled.
An online fundraiser established for Sara's children described her as "an incredible mom" who "loved them fiercely, worked hard to provide for them and dreamed of giving them the best life possible." The campaign noted that her children "were the center of her world" and that "everything she did was for them."
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that more than half of female homicide victims in the United States are killed by current or former intimate partners. Roughly one in five homicide victims overall are killed by an intimate partner.
