Tony Romo, the CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence in Wisconsin.
Romo was stopped while driving south on Interstate 43 near Milwaukee on Thursday. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office arrest report, he performed poorly on field sobriety tests during the traffic stop. He was taken into custody, booked, and released.
The 46-year-old was in the area to compete in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament. Romo attended high school about 35 miles from Milwaukee in Burlington, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin law treats first-offense operating while intoxicated charges differently than most states. A first-offense OWI is not classified as a criminal charge in Wisconsin and typically results in a fine ranging from $150 to $300. Romo has a court appearance scheduled for September 21.
Romo joined CBS as the lead game analyst for its NFL coverage in 2017, a role he has held for the past several years. During his NFL career, which spanned from 2004 to 2016 and was spent entirely with the Dallas Cowboys, he made four Pro Bowl appearances. CBS declined to comment on the arrest.
The former quarterback remains the Cowboys' franchise leader in career touchdown passes with 248. He previously held the team record for career passing yards at 34,183 until Dak Prescott surpassed the mark last season.
