OpenAI has released Sora to the public, making its text-to-video generation model available at sora.com for general use.
The tool can produce videos at up to 1080p resolution with a maximum length of 20 seconds. Users can choose from three aspect ratios: widescreen, vertical, or square formats to match different viewing contexts and platforms.
The platform supports two workflows. Users can generate entirely new videos by writing text prompts, or they can upload existing assets to extend, remix, and blend them with AI-generated content. This flexibility allows creators to build on their own material or start from scratch with natural language descriptions.
The release marks a significant step in making AI video generation accessible beyond researchers and select beta testers. Sora's availability at the direct web interface removes barriers to experimentation and testing for the broader creative community.
Author Emily Chen: "Sora's public launch signals that AI video tools are moving from hype to actual usable products, and that shift matters more than the flashy demos."
