Riftbound's fourth expansion, Vendetta, is rolling out later this month with a fresh champion that punishes aggression. Gangplank, revealed exclusively, arrives as a rare unit with a defensive twist that could reshape how players build decks around removal and direct damage.
The pirate captain costs six mana and carries six power, positioning him as a mid-to-late game play. His defining ability, Empower, transforms him into a control nightmare once activated. Any spell or ability that would stun him, reduce his power, or bounce him from the field backfires instead, granting him plus three power. Players attempting conventional removal methods essentially feed him strength.
Gangplank slots into the Body color class, which means he benefits from the rune's natural tools for maintaining board presence and raw offense. The combination of his survivability mechanics and color synergies positions him as a potential hard counter to decks relying on spell-heavy removal or bounce strategies.
The set launches July 31, with pre-release events beginning July 24 at participating retailers. This marks another addition to Riftbound's ongoing effort to translate the League of Legends champion roster into playable cards, continuing the momentum from recent sets.
Author Emily Chen: "Gangplank's design feels like a genuine meta-shaker, not just another tank filler. If he sticks, entire deck archetypes get forced to rebuild around him."
