Palworld's full launch arrives July 10, and developer Pocketpair has now pinpointed when the 1.0 update will go live: approximately 12:30pm Japan time, or 8:30pm PT on July 9 for West Coast players. The company stressed this is an estimate, not a locked-in timestamp.
That timing translates across time zones as 11:30pm ET on July 9 for the East Coast, 4:30am UK time on July 10 for Europe, and 1:30pm AEST on July 10 for Sydney players. John Buckley, Pocketpair's communications director, announced the window in a Discord post, emphasizing the caveat that exact launch moments can shift.
The bigger question hanging over the update concerns existing player saves. Pocketpair's official stance: you don't have to wipe your data, but the developer strongly recommends that you do.
"Players can continue their existing saves if they wish, as we want to respect the time and effort you have put in," Buckley wrote. "However, due to the large number of changes to the game, including overhauls to mechanics and new content, we believe that starting a new character will give you the best experience of Palworld."
The diplomatic framing leaves the decision to players while making clear that Pocketpair believes a fresh start captures the intended 1.0 experience. Patch notes are expected to span 27 pages, signaling extensive changes across systems and content.
Palworld's rise has been meteoric. The creature-collecting survival game launched into Early Access on Steam and Game Pass in early 2024 at a $30 price point and immediately shattered sales and concurrent player records. CEO Takuro Mizobe acknowledged the phenomenon was so massive the studio struggled to process the financial windfall. Pocketpair later brought Palworld to PlayStation 5, expanding its footprint further.
The game's success also sparked controversy. Palworld's creature designs drew comparisons and accusations of copying Pokémon aesthetics. Rather than pursue copyright claims, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a patent infringement lawsuit seeking damages and an injunction against the game. A ruling is expected later this year.
Pocketpair also capitalized on Palworld's momentum by forming Palworld Entertainment with Sony, a joint venture focused on expanding the IP beyond the game itself.
Author Emily Chen: "The 'you don't need to wipe but really should' messaging is classic developer diplomacy, but 27 pages of patch notes suggests Pocketpair is serious about 1.0 being a genuine fresh start for anyone willing to commit."
