NetEase Drops Absurd Captain America Swimsuit Skin That Had Gamers Convinced It Was Fan-Made

NetEase Games rolled out a 4th of July celebration for Marvel Rivals that nobody saw coming. The studio released a swimsuit cosmetic for Captain America so exaggerated that large swaths of the gaming community immediately assumed it had to be a fan mod gone rogue.

The skin, called Seaside Sentinel, strips Steve Rogers down to a painfully tight mankini and equips him with an inflatable ducky shield. The jiggle physics are generous. NetEase's official description plays it straight, explaining that the beach crew voted Captain America should man the grill because of his status as "the red, white, and blue-blooded specimen of American masculinity people believe he is."

The proportions are so cartoonish that fans drew immediate comparisons to notorious comic book artist Rob Liefeld's infamous work. Social media erupted with speculation that screenshots and videos circulating online were products of modders, not the actual game. That skepticism persisted until confirmation arrived that the outfit is entirely real and purchasable through the Marvel Rivals store.

Reaction across Reddit, X, and other platforms has been exactly what you'd expect. One Reddit user quipped that Steve stole Thor's hammer. Another simply called it "literally America's ass" and declared Captain America their greatest of all time. On X, one player cut straight to the point with a three-word expletive followed by "finally."

The Seaside Sentinel skin arrives alongside equally revealing swimwear for Loki and White Fox. This latest addition continues a pattern fans have observed for months: Marvel Rivals' expanding roster keeps getting more provocative cosmetics. When pressed on whether NetEase deliberately creates what players call "gooner content," the studio has denied intentional design in that direction, even as the evidence piles up in the opposite direction.

Marvel Rivals remains available across PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Other characters who've received swimsuit skins include Daredevil and Black Widow.

Author Emily Chen: "NetEase knows exactly what it's doing here, and the fact that players were genuinely fooled into thinking this was a mod just proves how far the studio is willing to push it."
