The Pokémon trading card game is hitting playground-level fever pitch, and collectors are scrambling to lock down the hottest pulls. The Pokémon Company has mapped out a packed 2026 calendar that spans from January through December, packed with Mega Evolution sets, premium collections, and a landmark 30th-anniversary celebration that's already generating serious buzz.
The year kicks off on January 30 with the Pokémon Day 2026 Collection, a modest release featuring a special stamped Pikachu promo, a metallic coin, and booster packs. But that's just the warmup. By March, two major drops hit simultaneously: the First Partner Illustration Collection Series 1 arrives on March 20 at $14.99, highlighting first-partner starters from Kanto, Sinnoh, and Alola with exclusive illustration rare cards. The same month brings Perfect Order on March 27, a 120-card expansion focusing on creatures from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The set features Mega Zygarde ex, Mega Starmie ex, and Mega Clefable ex, with the standard Elite Trainer Box priced at $49.99.
May 22 is shaping up to be a release avalanche. Chaos Rising explodes onto shelves that day with Mega Greninja ex as the centerpiece, plus Mega Pyroar ex and Mega Dragalge ex. The same date brings the Mega Greninja ex Premium Collection ($39.99), Mega Zygarde ex Premium Collection ($39.99), and the Mega Lucario ex League Battle Deck ($19.99). Chaos Rising's Elite Trainer Box runs $49.99.
June 19 brings First Partner Illustration Collection Series 2, again at $14.99, this time pulling from Johto, Unova, and Galar starters. The cards are randomized, so collectors can't pick their region. July brings a pair of premium drops: Mega Greninja ex Premium Collection releases July 3, while Pitch Black (known as Abyss Eye in Japan) launches July 17 with Mega Darkrai ex at its core. Pitch Black is roughly half the size of its spring predecessors at 115 cards, with Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, and Mega Excadrill ex rounding out the Mega Evolution roster.
August 7 marks the First Partner Illustration Collection Series 3 launch, featuring Hoenn, Kalos, and Paldea starters at $14.99. The centerpiece of 2026 arrives September 16: the 30th Celebration set, releasing worldwide simultaneously for the first time to curb the import market. All booster packs are full foil, with each containing one of 30 special Pikachu cards by different artists. The expansion introduces a premium tier called Futuristic Rare, debuting with Mew and Mewtwo by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. Classic reprints of Base Set Charizard and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX Tag Team return with special anniversary stamps. The 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box costs $49.99, with complementary products trickling out through early December.
November 6 closes the year strong with Delta Reign (Storm Emeralda in Japan), bringing Mega Rayquaza ex back for the first time since Evolving Skies. The set also marks the debut of a coordinated Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile game release, launching simultaneously. Pricing and preorder details for Delta Reign remain unconfirmed.
While this roadmap represents confirmed releases, the Pokémon Company has hinted at surprises beyond what's announced. Industry watchers expect additional special collections and regional exclusives to emerge throughout the year, particularly following Japan's TCG schedule trends.
Author Emily Chen: "The 30th Celebration simultaneous worldwide launch signals the company finally taking the scalping problem seriously, and Mega Greninja's dominance across three major drops proves Pokémon knows exactly what collectors will chase."
