The FBI is deploying a massive task force to investigate the 2020 election in Georgia's Fulton County, with a confidential memo directing field offices nationwide to send more than 260 analysts and support specialists to the effort.
The directive, obtained by the Associated Press, characterizes the Georgia work as a "priority investigation" and calls for a "surge" in personnel. Each staffer is expected to review approximately 708 records by mid-July, according to the memo.
The assignment marks a significant escalation in resources. FBI agents conducted a major seizure in January, removing hundreds of boxes of ballots and election-related documents from Fulton County, Georgia's most populous county and home to much of Atlanta.
The Justice Department previously announced it was investigating "irregularities that occurred during the 2020 presidential election in the county." Fulton County officials declined to comment on the deployment, citing the ongoing investigation.
Georgia's vote tally in the 2020 presidential race underwent multiple audits following the election, including a manual hand recount. Each verification confirmed Joe Biden's victory in the state. Despite this, former President Donald Trump and his supporters have repeatedly asserted without evidence that widespread fraud altered the outcome.
