Nintendo's Star Fox remake hits Switch 2 shelves tomorrow, June 25, and retailers are already moving fast to clear preorders with a rare discount on physical copies.
Both Amazon and Walmart have dropped the price to $49.94, cutting $10 from the standard $59.99 retail price. The timing matters. Once the game launches, there's no guarantee these deals will stick around, making today and tomorrow the window to lock in savings before full-price launch days begin.
The discount lands at an interesting moment for Nintendo. The company recently announced that physical Switch 2 games would cost more than their digital counterparts, a pricing structure that raised eyebrows among players and retailers alike. This preorder offer appears to be retailers pushing back slightly against that premium, at least for launch inventory.
Star Fox isn't alone in getting the treatment. A broader slate of Switch 2 physical preorders are currently discounted across major retailers, giving buyers a rare chance to stack savings across multiple titles before launch windows close.
The remake itself has already earned solid reviews. IGN's Jada Griffin awarded it 8 out of 10, praising the visual overhaul and newly crafted cutscenes. Griffin noted that even after nearly three decades with Star Fox 64, the remake's fresh presentation and storytelling additions managed to capture that original sense of wonder. The classic barrel roll still feels at home on new hardware.
For players looking to stretch their gaming budget further, Amazon is currently running Prime Day sales through a four-day window. The promotional period has already spotlighted dozens of gaming deals, including discounts across multiple Switch 2 titles and hardware accessories.
Author Emily Chen: "These preorder discounts are fleeting, and Nintendo's tiered pricing structure makes them even more valuable than usual."
