Pokémon Pokopia Teases Shiny Forms and Costume Creatures in Expansion Pass Hints

Pokémon Pokopia is gearing up for its next major event while dropping cryptic clues about what comes next. The Switch 2 life sim will launch a limited-time encounter with the Mythical Pokémon Jirachi starting June 23, running through July 8.

Called "Wish Upon a Jirachi," the two-week event follows the familiar Pokopia formula. Players will meet Jirachi at completed Pokémon Centers and trade event currency for exclusive furniture and décor items. Nothing revolutionary there, but it's the first official confirmation that Mythical creatures will continue appearing in the game.

The real intrigue lies in retailer artwork discovered for the recently-announced $34.99 expansion pass. The imagery reveals unreleased Pokémon species not yet available in the base game. More significantly, existing creatures like Peakychu appear wearing new costume accessories, suggesting that the base roster will soon gain cosmetic customization options beyond the player character's current wardrobe.

Fan sleuths have spotted something even more tantalizing in that same artwork: sparkles that closely resemble the visual indicator used throughout the Pokémon franchise to denote Shiny variants. Pokopia currently has no Shiny Pokémon available in any form. The presence of those particular effects in the expansion pass promotional materials has sparked speculation that Shiny forms could arrive as part of the new content pipeline.

Nintendo confirmed that additional details about the expansion pass will arrive later, with content drops scheduled to begin this summer and continue rolling out through 2027. That timeline leaves plenty of room for surprises, though the retailer artwork is clearly sending a message about at least some of what's coming.

For players eager to jump into the Jirachi event immediately, time travel mechanics remain available, letting you adjust your Switch clock to trigger the encounter before the official June 23 launch.

Author Emily Chen: "The expansion pass hints are tantalizing enough that players will be dissecting that artwork for months, but Nintendo should just confirm the Shiny feature instead of dragging this out."
