Garfield's Spinach Lasagna Nightmare Gets a Sinister Gameplay Reveal

A new trailer for Garfield: Escape From Monday pulls back the curtain on what happens when Jon's cooking experiments go horribly wrong. The clip shows the orange tabby tumbling into a fever dream triggered by spinach lasagna, courtesy of a recipe from the game's mysterious Chef Monday character.

What begins as Garfield lounging in a pleasant dreamscape filled with his beloved junk food quickly transforms into something far darker. Vegetables become the enemy as he finds himself trapped in an unsettling healthy landscape, forced to navigate obstacles and battle unexpected foes to wake up.

The good news: help is on the way. Jon, Odie, Arlene, and Pookie appear throughout Garfield's ordeal, though the cat will also face opposition from Nermal, Squeak, and other hostile creatures. Survival means staying sharp and adapting to whatever horrors this dreamworld throws at him.

The platformer gives players three distinct power-up costumes to shift the action around. A turkey suit grants flight capabilities, the surfer outfit enables water gliding, and a cowboy getup comes equipped with a lasso for swinging across gaps and obstacles. Each costume transforms how players approach the game's challenges.

The full adventure spans three worlds packed with over 40 levels. Developer OSome Studio has loaded the experience with references to Jim Davis, Garfield's original creator, including artwork visible in picture frames scattered throughout the trailer footage.

Garfield: Escape From Monday launches September 24, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Author Emily Chen: "Garfield games have always struggled to capture what made the comic strip work, but this nightmare concept might finally be weird enough to feel fresh."
