Pearl Abyss' new action RPG Crimson Desert has crossed 6 million copies sold globally in just 83 days, the South Korean developer announced, marking one of the fastest climbs to that milestone for a new IP in recent memory.
The game launched on March 19 to immediate commercial success, moving 2 million units on day one and hitting 5 million sales within its opening month. The Western markets carried the surge: over 80 percent of Crimson Desert revenue came from North America and Europe.
The numbers have translated into substantial revenue. In its latest financial filing, which captured only two weeks of Crimson Desert sales post-launch, Pearl Abyss reported the title generated approximately $178.8 million. The company projects full-year 2026 revenue from Crimson Desert to fall between $432.2 million and $514.4 million, potentially topping half a billion dollars if the game reaches the upper end of that range.
Pearl Abyss expects sales velocity to ease in the second quarter, a typical pattern for blockbuster launches where initial fervor subsides. The publisher believes it can stabilize performance through a relentless content cadence. Since launch, the studio has deployed game-changing updates on an almost weekly basis, a commitment that has helped sustain player engagement.
The momentum has been strong enough that Pearl Abyss distributed a performance bonus to its workforce valued at approximately $3,400 per employee. The studio has also confirmed that DLC is in development and recently unveiled a summer content roadmap, signaling confidence in the title's longevity.
"Your adventures and tales continue to make the journey of Crimson Desert even more special," Pearl Abyss said in a statement. CEO Jin-young Heo added that the team remains "sincerely grateful to players around the world" and committed to delivering "more enjoyable and better experiences" going forward.
Author Emily Chen: "Crimson Desert's launch performance proves there's still genuine appetite for premium action RPGs when the execution is sharp, and Pearl Abyss' weekly update schedule is the blueprint other studios should be studying."
