Award-Winning Aussie Adventure The Drifter Lands on Switch This June

The Drifter, a critically acclaimed point-and-click adventure from Melbourne studio Powerhoof, will debut on Nintendo Switch on June 22, 2026, with a simultaneous release planned for Switch 2.

Powerhoof, the two-person team behind the 2014 dungeon crawler Crawl, has crafted a fast-paced 2D adventure that draws inspiration from Stephen King, Michael Crichton, and John Carpenter, with stylistic flourishes borrowed from 1970s Ozploitation cinema. The game swept multiple categories at the 2025 Australian Game Developer Awards, taking home Game of the Year along with awards for Excellence in Art, Excellence in Narrative, and Excellence in Sound Design.

The Switch 2 version will push the hardware's capabilities, supporting up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. According to Powerhoof, this enhanced performance will deliver sharper pixel art and smoother parallax scrolling effects. Players on Switch 2 will also have control flexibility, choosing between traditional twin-stick controls or a point-and-click experience powered by the Joy-Con 2's mouse functionality.

The Drifter has been available on PC since its original release, with Steam and GOG.com serving as the primary platforms. The Switch versions represent the game's first console outing, expanding its reach beyond the PC gaming audience that has already embraced the title.

Author Emily Chen: "Powerhoof's ability to nail both technical performance and creative vision on Switch 2 suggests this port won't be a compromise, but rather a showcase of what indie developers can achieve with the new hardware."
