Gears of War E-Day Preorders Open: Three Editions, Three Price Tiers

Gears of War: E-Day will launch October 6, and Xbox fans can now lock in their copy across three distinct editions, each with its own rewards and price point.

The Standard Edition runs $69.99 in both physical and digital formats, available through Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, Steam, and Xbox directly. Preordering any version unlocks a character skin and weapon skin for the Exfil Dom character, plus early access to the Open Beta launching August 6.

For $99.99, the digital-only Premium Edition packs considerably more value. Buyers get five days of early access, starting October 1, along with the Emergence Customization Pack. This includes legendary character skins like Death's Rendezvous Marcus Fenix and Bloodied Hunter Tai Kaliso, signature weapon skin sets, four additional seasonal customization packs, 1,000 Iron (the premium in-game currency), and the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack for campaign play. A $30 Premium Edition upgrade exists for those who want to add these extras to a standard copy after purchase.

The Collector's Edition tops out at $299.99 and arrives stuffed with physical memorabilia. Beyond everything in the Premium Edition, it includes a 15-inch diorama statue of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, a 1:1 scale metal replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags, an in-game photo, art print, thank-you note from The Coalition, and a custom SteelBook case designed by Luke Preece. Xbox buyers receive a physical disc, while Steam customers get a digital code. The entire package ships in collector's display packaging.

E-Day serves as an origin story, not a sequel. The game returns to Emergence Day, the catastrophic event that kicked off the Gears franchise, and follows Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago throughout. Creative Director Matt Searcy emphasized that players never leave Bravo Squad during the campaign. "The entire story is told from their perspective," he said. "Even though there's an event going on all over the world, we never jump anywhere else. You only see what they see and learn what they learn."

The game will also arrive on Game Pass for subscribers. PlayStation 5 owners are out of luck, as this remains an Xbox console exclusive, though it will launch on Steam for PC.

Details on the Open Beta remain sparse. Early access begins August 6 for preorder holders, with full timing and availability announcements still to come. Digital preorders grant automatic access, while physical copy buyers should expect beta codes from retailers at point of sale.

Author Emily Chen: "Three tiers in one launch is the right move here, letting players spend what matches their hype level and wallet without locking essential content behind paywalls."
