Elden Ring Heads to Nintendo Switch 2 This August With New Content

FromSoftware is bringing Elden Ring to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026, along with a slate of new customization options and gameplay additions.

The Tarnished Edition for Switch 2 will carry a $79.99 price tag and bundle together the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, fresh weapons, two additional starting classes, and cosmetic armor skins for Torrent, the player's spectral steed. On the same launch day, these additions will roll out across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam as a standalone Tarnished Pack DLC purchase, though Bandai Namco has not yet announced the DLC's price point.

The Switch 2 version was originally slated for 2025 but slipped to 2026 to allow for performance optimization. That delay came after concerns surfaced during early hands-on demonstrations at gaming events. Players and critics reported noticeable frame rate drops during outdoor exploration and camera movement, issues that threatened to undermine the experience on portable hardware.

The extended development window gives FromSoftware additional time to address those technical hurdles before release. The 2022 Game of the Year winner has already achieved massive commercial success, with 30 million copies sold worldwide across existing platforms.

With Elden Ring's arrival on Switch 2, the game will have reached every major gaming platform. That completion comes as FromSoftware shifts focus elsewhere. The developer's upcoming Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods is set to launch later this year, and the Elden Ring movie project remains in development. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has stated the studio is not currently working on Elden Ring 2, though he left the door open for a sequel at some point down the road.

Author Emily Chen: "A delay for polish on a major port is the right call, especially after the performance complaints from last year's demos."
