Wolverine Tears Through Enemies in Raw New Gameplay from Sony's State of Play

Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine made a significant showing at Sony's State of Play event, with an extended gameplay sequence that laid bare the brutality at the heart of the PS5 exclusive.

The footage opened with Logan pursuing a lead in an area crawling with cybernetically enhanced enemies holding the Morlocks captive, including the mutant Leech. The sequence showcased a stealth approach that quickly gave way to all-out combat, with Wolverine using his adamantium claws in graphic fashion while filling up a rage meter. The violence is uncompromising and central to how the game operates.

Jean Grey joins the action partway through, working alongside Wolverine to push back enemy forces. Their collaboration includes co-op finishing moves, though they ultimately fail to prevent the Morlocks from being loaded into a getaway van. The scene then escalates into a high-speed chase, with Wolverine leaping between moving vehicles in pursuit. The demo highlighted his Healing Factor ability, activated through button mashing as Logan absorbs significant damage during a climactic dive into the vehicle carrying the kidnapped mutants.

The broader footage teased appearances from recognizable characters in the rogues gallery, including Sabretooth, Omega Red, Mystique, and Sentinels.

What emerged from the showcase is a clear departure from Insomniac's previous work on the Spider-Man franchise. While those games offered open-world exploration, Wolverine is structured as a linear, narrative-driven action title. Stealth remains an option, but the design philosophy emphasizes rapid, efficient killing with the story driving forward at a deliberate pace.

The game launches September 15, 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5. Sony has signaled that single-player narrative games will remain PlayStation exclusives going forward, meaning a PC port is off the table. Preorders are currently available through Amazon and the PlayStation Store.

Author Emily Chen: "This isn't the story-driven stealth game some might have hoped for, it's a pure combat power fantasy where brutality is the entire point."
