Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will continue receiving updates into a third year, Focus Entertainment announced, riding the momentum of explosive growth that has turned the grimdark action shooter into a breakout hit for developer Saber Interactive.
The decision to extend live support comes after the game reached 12 million players two years after launch. Focus credited strong community reception to recent updates as the driving force behind the commitment. "We're really excited about what's coming, and we think you will be too!" the publisher teased in a community post, without detailing what Year 3 will bring.
The studio had already flagged Space Marine 2 as transformative for Saber Interactive. Development chief Tim Willits told IGN shortly after the game launched that sales exploded from the start and have continued climbing steadily. The addition of the game to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass only accelerated growth.
For now, players have concrete updates to look forward to in the coming months. Patch 13, due by the end of June, will introduce the Ultragrind Ordeals, a demanding unlock system within the Trials of Resolve that demands serious commitment. These challenges come with up to three difficulty tiers and punishing requirements: some tasks ask you to complete an operation 100 times or land three headshots on Majoris-tier enemies using only Absolute difficulty.
The same patch adds Perks Loadout, a long-requested quality-of-life feature that lets players save up to three preset configurations of perks instead of manually adjusting them each time. Also landing in Patch 13 is a Practice Arena in the Battle Barge, available in solo play, where you can test weapons against enemies of your choice at any difficulty level while tracking damage output and DPS.
Patch 13 will also unlock new wargear customization options through a class-specific rework. Items like capes and iron halos can now be equipped across classes, though lore restrictions remain in place. For example, snipers cannot equip the iron halo. Patch 14, arriving by the end of September, will add tabards and robes, including the full Bulwark robe.
Focus also plans to release a Salamanders Champion Pack 2, rounding out the Year 2 roadmap before Year 3 begins. Content that doesn't make the Year 2 deadline will roll forward and remain free to all players.
The extended support comes even as Space Marine 3 remains unannounced beyond a brief announcement in the immediate aftermath of the original game's launch. No meaningful details about the sequel have emerged, leaving focus squarely on keeping the original game fresh and engaging for its massive player base.
Author Emily Chen: "A 12 million player base demanding a third year of support signals that Games Workshop finally found the right studio and formula for Space Marine after years of underperforming ports and tie-ins."
