Donald Trump pushed back against Prince Harry's recent remarks about Ukraine, suggesting the Duke of Sussex does not represent British interests as effectively as he does.
Harry delivered an impassioned speech at the Kyiv Security Forum on Thursday, calling on the United States to uphold its obligations toward Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. The visit marked a show of solidarity with the country following four years of war.
Trump responded by saying he believes his own words carry more weight on behalf of the UK than those of the royal. "I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry, but I appreciate his advice very much," the US president said.
Harry, a former serviceman who made the surprise trip to Kyiv, did not claim to be representing the British government or people in his remarks.
Author James Rodriguez: "Trump inserting himself into the narrative around what 'speaks for Britain' reveals more about his instinct to dominate any conversation than any actual insight into UK sentiment."
