Capcom is celebrating a major milestone for Resident Evil Requiem, the horror franchise's latest blockbuster, which has now sold over 7 million copies worldwide. The achievement marks another month of extraordinary performance since the game's launch last month, when it sold 5 million units in just five days, making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil title ever released.
Director Koshi Nakanishi announced the sales bump on Instagram, sharing photos of the studio's celebration complete with two oversized, game-themed cakes. One features a Leon cake decorated with black icing, blueberries, raspberries, and a biscuit-based Leon figure wielding a pistol. A second tier showcases the character's signature hatchet. The cake reads, "Welcome to 7m Leon!"
The second cake honors co-protagonist Grace Ashcroft, designed with white frosting and topped with a zombie hand decoration reaching up from the lower tier. Its inscription reads, "Grace Congratulations on 7 million!"
The sales momentum shows no signs of slowing. Capcom has lined up additional content, including a mystery update scheduled for next month that players expect will introduce a new version of The Mercenaries mode. Datamined files recently surfaced revealing new music tied to the feature, fueling speculation about what's coming.
Beyond that, a substantial story DLC is also in development, though the studio has not yet confirmed a release window. For a game that arrived just weeks ago, the roadmap suggests Capcom is confident in long-term player engagement and revenue potential.
Resident Evil Requiem's explosive launch and sustained sales growth represent a major win for the franchise, which has struggled in recent years to capture the same cultural moment it once dominated. The title's rapid ascent to 7 million copies sold underscores renewed interest in the survival horror formula.
Author Emily Chen: "This is the kind of launch momentum that changes how publishers view the franchise going forward, and another seven-figure jump in a month tells you everything you need to know about player appetite for what Capcom delivered here."
