A hot-air balloon carrying 13 people made an unexpected arrival at a Temecula, California home on April 18, touching down on a small patch of grass in the residential yard. Hunter Perrin, the property owner, said he was taken aback when his neighbor knocked on the door to inform him and his wife they had uninvited guests overhead.
The pilot cited fuel concerns and shifting wind conditions as reasons for the emergency landing decision. Once all passengers had safely exited the basket, the pilot guided the massive balloon to a spot in the street nearby, where it was taken apart and removed from the scene.
Author James Rodriguez: "A hot-air balloon emergency landing in someone's backyard sounds like the kind of story that gets better every time it's told at dinner parties."
