Samson, the 1990s-set open-world brawler from Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg, will arrive on consoles this fall following a rough PC debut earlier this month. Developer Liquid Swords is working to patch and expand the game before the console release, with a detailed roadmap already in place.
The game launched on PC with significant technical problems. While the underlying design showed promise, with combat and driving mechanics that stand apart from mainstream open-world fare, bugs and repetitive design dragged down the experience. A review gave Samson a 4 out of 10.
Liquid Swords plans weekly patches through early May, targeting combat refinements, new vehicle options, performance optimization, and user-reported fixes. Two major content updates will follow: a combat-focused expansion arriving in mid-May, and a vehicle-themed update in mid-June.
Which consoles will get the fall release remains unconfirmed. The publisher declined to specify whether Nintendo Switch 2 is included alongside the presumed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. Unreal Engine 5 games have largely skipped Switch 2 so far, raising questions about technical feasibility.
The developer emphasized its commitment to listening to player feedback from Discord and community forums as it shapes the update priorities moving forward.
Author Emily Chen: "Samson had the bones of something special but shipped too early on PC, so this console transition feels like a make-or-break moment to actually deliver on the vision."
