Alex Amancio, the creative director behind Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Revelations, is unveiling his new project: Nightholme, a multiplayer horror experience that blends stealth, action, and player-versus-player competition.
The game supports up to three players working together in what Amancio describes as a "multiplayer horror hunt experience." Players take on the role of Grimrunners, operatives who begin each session at Last Ground, a Brineheart camp positioned at the edge of town. At this starting hub, players consume a Nocturn—a substance that determines their transformation for the current round.
The core objective revolves around hunting down the Gloomfiend, a boss-level threat that yields a Terror Seed upon defeat. However, Nightholme's appeal extends beyond straightforward PvE combat. The game encourages multiple playstyles: teams can pursue traditional quests, attempt to sabotage rival hunters and steal their earnings, or navigate the corrupted open world with a focus on stealth.
Sessions can accommodate up to 12 players total, creating a dynamic environment where cooperation and conflict coexist. The dual gameplay approach—balancing stealth mechanics alongside direct action—gives players tactical flexibility in how they approach objectives and interact with other Grimrunners.
Amancio recently showcased nine minutes of narrated gameplay footage walking viewers through the experience, offering a detailed look at how the game functions in practice. The presentation highlighted both the environmental design of the corrupted world and the strategic decisions players face when deciding whether to ally with or oppose other hunters.
Nightholme is currently in development for PC. Those interested can add the game to their Steam wishlist. A closed beta is scheduled to launch this summer, with sign-ups available for interested players. The project marks Amancio's return to game development leadership following his work on the Assassin's Creed franchise.
