Grand Theft Auto 5 Exits Xbox Game Pass After One-Year Run

Grand Theft Auto 5 is among five games departing Xbox Game Pass this month, with both the Enhanced and Legacy versions of Rockstar's open-world title set to leave on April 15, 2026.

The removal marks the end of a 12-month licensing window. GTA 5 returned to the subscription service on April 15, 2025, when the Enhanced edition became available through PC Game Pass. Now, exactly one year later, it's being pulled from the catalog.

The timing aligns with Take-Two's broader strategy around Grand Theft Auto 6. Company boss Strauss Zelnick has signaled that marketing efforts for the next installment will intensify this summer, likely making GTA 5's departure from Game Pass part of a calculated shift in promotional focus.

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, arriving first on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Conspicuously absent is any PC version announcement, which represents a notable departure from Rockstar's typical release pattern for mainline entries in the series.

Speculation surrounds GTA 6's price point, with some industry observers expecting a $100 asking price. Rockstar has offered no official guidance on this. One detail Zelnick has definitively addressed is the format—he denied reports that GTA 6 would launch exclusively as a digital release.

Beyond GTA 5, four other titles are exiting Game Pass in April: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Terra Invicta, My Little Pony: A Zephyr Heights Mystery, and Ashen.
