Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Drops Phoenix Cyclops as First DLC Fighter

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls unveiled its opening salvo of post-launch content at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, introducing Phoenix Cyclops as the inaugural Year 1 DLC character for the 4v4 tag team fighting game launching August 6 on PC and PlayStation 5.

Ray Chase, who voices Cyclops in Disney+ series X-Men '97 and hero shooter Marvel Rivals, lends his voice to the character. Phoenix Cyclops draws from the X-Men's Phoenix Five storyline that emerged during Avengers vs. X-Men, weaponizing the cosmic power of the Phoenix Force alongside his signature mutant abilities.

The character's moveset emphasizes aggressive offense, according to developer Arc System Works. "Unleash devastating Optic Blasts, relentless close-range pressure, and the cosmic flames of the Phoenix Force," the studio described of Phoenix Cyclops' combat toolkit. The fighter is scheduled to arrive in fall 2026 as the first of four planned DLC characters and one additional stage rolling out over the game's first year.

The developer also premiered the game's opening sequence during the Comic-Con panel. Arc System Works tapped Japanese animation studio Sanzigen to craft the opening movie, with Daisuke Suzuki directing. The studio drew inspiration from classic fighting game intros and the anime sensibilities of the early 2000s to establish the visual identity.

The opening's accompanying track, "Stronger as One," hit streaming services at 9pm PST following the Comic-Con reveal. The song will remain part of the game's identity as players engage with Marvel Tōkon's competitive fighting mechanics throughout its lifecycle.

Author Emily Chen: "Phoenix Cyclops with the Phoenix Force sounds like the kind of over-the-top Marvel excess fighting games do best, and Ray Chase brings the vocal talent to back it up."
