Ubisoft's newly remade Assassin's Creed Black Flag is facing the same November storm every other major release dreads: Grand Theft Auto 6. But the game's director is making a direct appeal to players not to abandon ship when Rockstar's blockbuster arrives on November 19.
Game director Richard Knight acknowledged the obvious challenge GTA 6 will pose to player attention. "I mean, it doesn't feel like a crazy bet," he said in an interview, before adding the direct plea: "Please play us when GTA 6 comes out."
Knight's candid statement reflects a broader industry concern. So many developers expect GTA 6 to dominate gaming time that they've already moved their September and October release schedules to avoid a direct collision with November's juggernaut launch.
For Black Flag Resynced, the strategy is not avoidance but commitment. The director confirmed the team will keep supporting the game through and beyond GTA 6's release, tackling bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements as priorities.
The first major addition is already locked in. Ubisoft previously announced a New Game Plus mode coming to Resynced, and Knight confirmed work is actively underway. The feature borrowed architectural lessons from Assassin's Creed Shadows, which Knight credited as a "low-risk" approach that helped accelerate development. "It's just such a natural thing," he said, though he stopped short of committing to a specific launch date.
Beyond New Game Plus, the roadmap remains unclear. A challenge mode similar to what Assassin's Creed Mirage added recently is a possibility, allowing players to replay story missions with fresh objectives and unlock cosmetic rewards. Fans have also campaigned for the original Black Flag's celebrated Freedom Cry DLC, which shifted focus to the character Adewale, but no word on that front has materialized.
The base game itself has proven strong enough to carry that weight. IGN's review praised Resynced as more than just a graphical update, bringing one of the series' best entries into modern standards with a 9/10 score.
Author Emily Chen: "Knight's willingness to shoot straight about GTA 6's shadow shows real respect for the audience, even if post-launch support through November's chaos remains an uphill battle."
