A grim discovery in rural Alabama has revealed a case of domestic violence that ended in sudden death for both parties involved. Authorities found Daniel Robbins, 44, and Jessica Folds, 47, dead next to an abandoned vehicle in a wooded area of Lanett on the morning of June 10.
Robbins, a Georgia resident, had fatally strangled Folds, who was from Lanett, according to investigators. But before he could complete his attempt to dispose of her body, Robbins suffered a fatal heart attack.
"He died of a heart attack while doing it," said Mike Segrest, the local district attorney. "Their bodies were right there together."
When Chambers County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, the truck's engine was still running with the driver's side door open. The tailgate was down, and drag marks traced a path through the dirt where the two bodies lay in the woods nearby.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Science conducted autopsies on both individuals. Autopsy findings, combined with evidence gathered at the scene and investigative work by local and state law enforcement, confirmed that Folds had been strangled and that Robbins had been attempting to move her body to a remote location when he died.
Segrest told local news outlets that investigators believed the incident occurred the previous night, based on the vehicle still being operational and other circumstances at the scene. The prosecutor suspected the killing was an act of domestic violence, as the two had been in a relationship.
Folds was a mother of three adult sons. According to her obituary, she was known for her warmth and generosity, described as someone who "touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and a smile that brightened the world."
Robbins is survived by a daughter.
