Vance Rakes in $4.2M at Silicon Valley Fundraiser

Vice President JD Vance tapped his venture capital roots Thursday night, headlining a Republican National Committee fundraiser in Palo Alto that pulled in $4.2 million for the party.

The dinner took place at the home of Chamath Palihapitiya, the influential investor and All-In Podcast host who co-hosted the event alongside John Underwood of Goldman Sachs. The guest list read like a Silicon Valley roster: Coinbase co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong and Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan were among the attendees.

About two dozen supporters each cut checks for $250,000 to attend.

Vance's ties to the tech world run deep. Before his election to the U.S. Senate from Ohio, he spent years in venture capital, giving him natural connections across the Valley's investor class. His role as RNC finance chair now amplifies those relationships, positioning him to court major GOP donors nationwide as he prepares for an expected 2028 presidential run.

Author James Rodriguez: "Vance is smart to lean on his VC background and accelerate donor cultivation now, but it also signals the GOP is betting heavily on his ability to bridge the party's wealth gap with coastal tech money."
