A fast-growing wildfire in Riverside County has forced authorities to evacuate residents and open emergency shelters as the blaze continues to spread across the region east of Los Angeles.
The fire has consumed roughly 3 square miles of terrain, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Evacuation orders were issued for parts of the county as flames advanced through the hills, displacing families from their homes.
Emergency responders have mobilized aggressively to contain the threat. More than 250 firefighting personnel and over 40 fire engines have been deployed to battle the blaze. Shelters have been established to house residents forced from their homes.
