Poncle, the developer behind the wildly successful Vampire Survivors, is stepping into the anime ring with a new collaboration that pairs its signature bullet-hell gameplay with one of manga and anime's biggest franchises. Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton was unveiled today during Nintendo Direct, marking an unexpected but natural fusion of the studio's addictive wave-survival mechanics and the supernatural action world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
The game strips away the gothic horror setting of Vampire Survivors and replaces it with hordes of cursed spirits from the anime, but keeps the pixel art style and one-more-run loop that made the original such a hit. It's Poncle's second major collaboration after Vampire Crawlers, and this time the scale is bigger: multiplayer battles with up to eight players competing simultaneously.
In Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton, players face endless waves of cursed enemies while battling seven rivals in real-time online matches. The core loop stays true to form: defeat enemies to rack up points, unlock strategic power-ups called Rule Additions every 100 points earned, and claw your way toward the top of dynamic leaderboards. Movement-based controls handle character positioning while attacks fire automatically, putting the emphasis on timing and tactical placement rather than twitch reflexes.
The trailer reveals over 20 playable characters pulled directly from the Jujutsu Kaisen roster, with familiar faces already confirmed including protagonist Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Toge Inumaki, Kento Nanami, Yuta Okkotsu, and Satoru Gojo. Each match climaxes with a final duel between the two highest-scoring players, adding an extra layer of competitive tension.
Poncle confirmed that offline play will be available with computer-controlled opponents, though details on the depth of single-player content remain vague for now. The game launches on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2026, with a specific release date and price still under wraps.
The timing lands perfectly for anime fans starved for Jujutsu Kaisen content since Season 3 wrapped earlier this year, leaving the story hanging on The Culling Game Part 2. A multiplayer roguelike spinoff won't scratch quite the same itch as new story episodes, but it offers something different: the chance to duke it out with other players using characters from the series in fast-paced arcade chaos.
Author Emily Chen: "This feels like the exact kind of wild IP mashup that works best when a developer doesn't overthink it. Poncle knows what it does well, and slapping Jujutsu Kaisen on top of that formula could be exactly what fans need while waiting for the anime to return."
