Pokémon Pokopia is about to get wet. Nintendo revealed during its June 2026 Direct that the social sim sandbox spin-off will receive a substantial free update this August, followed by a paid expansion pass containing three separate content drops spread across the next year.
The free update arriving in August 2026 introduces the Dive mechanic, which allows players to explore underwater regions for the first time. Once submerged, fans can plant grass, construct buildings, and establish their own ocean-floor towns alongside water-type Pokémon. This expansion opens up previously inaccessible portions of the game world.
For those willing to spend, the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass is now available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop at $34.99. Part 1, titled Bubbly Basin, launches alongside the free update in August. This paid DLC introduces a full underwater town complete with ocean-themed furniture, new outfits, and additional Pokémon species to befriend.
The remaining two parts follow a staggered release schedule. Part 2 is slated for late 2026 and will include another new town, though Nintendo has not yet disclosed specific details. Part 3 arrives in 2027, with its contents remaining a mystery for now.
Purchasing the full expansion pass unlocks early rewards. Players who commit to all three DLCs receive a recipe for Ditto print blocks and matching wallpaper. An additional incentive applies to early adopters: anyone who buys the pass by August 31, 2026, gets a code for 30 rare Pokémetal ingots.
The underwater theme marks a significant thematic shift for the life simulation title, which has previously focused on terrestrial town building and creature care. Footage from the reveal trailer demonstrated the visual polish of the submerged environments and how the new dive system integrates with existing gameplay mechanics.
August shapes up to be a major month for Pokémon Pokopia players, with both the free foundational update and the first paid DLC chapter arriving simultaneously. Nintendo has not yet announced whether additional content announcements will follow the June Direct presentation.
