Nintendo's Switch 2 Sports Game Now Taking Preorders, October Launch Locked In

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is heading to its new hardware this fall, and Amazon is currently the only retailer accepting preorders for physical copies of the anticipated motion-control title.

The game will launch October 22, 2026, exclusively on Switch 2. Digital preorders are available through the Nintendo eShop at $49.99, while physical editions remain Amazon-exclusive for now. Nintendo's pricing strategy reflects a wider shift toward digital versions costing less than their physical counterparts.

Resort expands on the original Switch Sports lineup with a roster of 13 confirmed activities, including returning favorites like tennis, bowling, and golf alongside fresh additions such as jump rope, skateboarding, and thumb wrestling. The game relies on Switch 2's upgraded Joy-Con controls to deliver its motion-based gameplay. Notably absent from the lineup are soccer, sword dueling, and frisbee, which appeared in earlier iterations.

The spiritual successor to Wii Sports Resort demands Switch 2 hardware and won't receive a backwards-compatible Switch 1 version. The new Joy-Con controllers are integral to the experience, making the game incompatible with older Nintendo platforms.

Nintendo announced Switch Sports Resort during its June Direct presentation. The company has not indicated plans to add more sports through updates, though past motion-control titles have received post-launch content expansions.

Author Emily Chen: "Resort feels like Nintendo finally capitalizing on what motion controls could be, even if the sport lineup leaves some gaps from its predecessors."
