Elden Ring finally comes to Switch 2, and Smyths has the best preorder deal

Elden Ring is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time in the franchise's history. The acclaimed FromSoftware RPG launches 28 August 2026, and UK preorders are now live for the Tarnished Edition at Smyths for £59.99, a £10 discount against standard retail pricing.

This is the only version available on Switch 2, and it bundles both the base game and the massive Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The DLC alone added 30 to 40 hours of content, two new Starting Classes, additional armor sets, and the ability to customize Torren, the game's horse mount. On PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Steam, Shadow of the Erdtree still sells separately between £32.99 and £34.99.

The £59.99 price at Smyths undercuts Amazon, which is charging the full £69.99 recommended retail price. If you're shopping around for UK preorders, Smyths currently offers the best savings.

There's one important catch: this is a Game-Key Card, not a full physical release. The game and expansion won't be preloaded on the card itself. You'll need to download both through an internet connection once you insert it into your Switch 2. This is a common format for Switch physical releases in the current generation and shouldn't surprise anyone familiar with recent Nintendo releases.

Elden Ring's arrival on Switch 2 marks a significant moment for Nintendo gamers who missed the game when it debuted on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC four years ago. The Switch platform has historically struggled to run demanding AAA titles, but Switch 2's upgraded hardware makes a port like this feasible.

Author Emily Chen: "Smyths nailing this preorder price is exactly what Nintendo fans needed to hear about a four-year-old game hitting their platform for the first time."
