Hayley Atwell Suits Up as Fable's New Villain in First Look at 2027 Reboot

Xbox's Fable revival is finally getting its day in the sun. The studio dropped a new trailer during the Xbox Showcase that locks in a February 23, 2027 release date and introduces the game's primary antagonist: Isabel, played by Marvel actor Hayley Atwell.

In the footage, Atwell's character delivers a compelling pitch for her own righteousness, claiming she alone qualifies as Albion's true hero. But the trailer's real hook came at the end, when developers confirmed the return of Jack of Blades, the iconic villain from the original Fable games, signaling that the reboot plans to weave both new and legacy threats into its story.

Isabel isn't simply an antagonist who believes she's right, according to Craig Owens, the game's associate narrative director. She's a hero consumed by tragedy. "Driven by grief, Isabel has turned her pain into determination and focus that sets her at odds with The Hero of Briar Hill and Humphry, her one-time guardian," Owens explained. That internal conflict, he suggested, makes her particularly dangerous: her absolute conviction that she can fix whatever damage she causes along her path gives her the moral flexibility to do almost anything in pursuit of her goals.

The release date confirmation marks the end of a long wait for players. Fable had previously been delayed, and the February 2027 window clears the decks ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6's arrival, giving the reboot room to breathe in the marketplace.

Author Emily Chen: "Atwell brings serious star power to a rebooted franchise that desperately needs it, and making the villain sympathetic rather than cartoonish is exactly the move Fable should make."
