Onimusha Sword Game Goes Live for Preorder Ahead of Late September Launch

Capcom's upcoming action title Onimusha: Way of the Sword is now available for preorder across major platforms ahead of its September 25 release date. The game offers multiple editions at varying price points, giving players flexibility in how they want to experience the blade-focused adventure.

Physical copies on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X start at $69.99 for the standard edition, which includes a reversible cover sheet featuring alternative artwork. A steelbook variant, distinguished by more vibrant cover design, runs $74.99 on both consoles. Both physical editions are available through Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop.

For digital players, the standard edition costs $69.99 across PlayStation Store, Xbox, Steam, and other PC storefronts like Fanatical and Green Man Gaming. Fanatical is currently offering an 18 percent discount, bringing the PC price down to $57.39.

Capcom has structured its digital offerings with two premium tiers. The Deluxe Edition, priced at $79.99, bundles cosmetic items including outfit variations, sword appearances, charms, and a selection of character skins. The Premium Deluxe Edition at $89.99 expands this further with additional outfits, in-game cosmetics, and a mini digital soundtrack.

Every preorder across all editions grants the Lion Dog Charm and Sealed Curse Sword Appearance. Deluxe and Premium Deluxe buyers receive additional exclusive items: the White Monkey Charm and White Lion Sword Appearance.

Those hesitant to commit can test the game first. A demo is currently live offering roughly 30 minutes of early campaign content. Players can practice combat techniques including Parry, Deflect, Issen, and Oni Armament mechanics while battling through the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage against the rival Sasaki Ganryu. Demo progress carries over to the full release, awarding the Charm: Kubi Akari to players who complete a save file.

Way of the Sword marks a fresh entry in Capcom's long-dormant franchise. Set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, the game follows legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as he gains supernatural Oni powers to combat monstrous Genma forces overrunning the historic city. Early hands-on impressions highlighted the game's foundation in tight swordplay fundamentals.

Author Emily Chen: "Multiple editions and a solid demo make this an easy preorder for action fans, though the premium digital tiers feel steep for cosmetics alone."
