LEGO Batman Finally Swings to Switch 2, September Launch Confirmed

Nintendo Switch 2 owners now have a firm date to circle: LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives September 18th. Pre-orders are live, with two pricing tiers and a modest selection of bonus content that depends on which version you choose.

The standard edition carries a $69.99 price tag, while the deluxe edition runs $89.99. Unlike deluxe packages on other platforms, the Switch 2 version skips early access entirely, so paying extra won't get you the game any sooner. What it does unlock is the Legacy Collection DLC, featuring character suits and vehicles drawn from Batman's extensive video game and film catalog, including material inspired by the Arkham series and Batman Beyond. The deluxe package also grants access to the Mayhem Collection, dropping the same day, which adds Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters plus a fresh story mission. Those grabbing the physical edition get a bonus LEGO Retro Video Game Batman minifigure.

The Switch 2 confirmation itself represents a modest relief in the gaming calendar. Earlier concerns had swirled around whether the title might suffer the fate of Borderlands 4, whose Switch 2 development was shelved just as launch approached. That stumble raised fears that LEGO Batman could follow suit, especially after missing the initial day-and-date window. The delay proved manageable, though the September slot crowds the release calendar as publishers jostle to avoid GTA 6's gravitational pull.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launched to considerable acclaim this past May, earning consistent praise for its loving homage to both the caped crusader's cinematic and gaming history. The title marks a significant franchise revival, arriving more than a decade after LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham in 2014. A spin-off featuring DC villains appeared in 2018, but this release represents the character's return to lead role status in the LEGO universe.

Future plans for the franchise remain unannounced, leaving questions about whether this Switch 2 port signals renewed momentum or serves as a standalone return for Gotham's finest.

Author Emily Chen: "The September release window makes sense commercially, but asking Switch 2 players to wait this long after other platforms should have come with more substantial exclusive incentives."
