The hype machine around Grand Theft Auto 6 is running so hot that one German content creator decided to test his luck by simply walking through the front doors of Rockstar's Edinburgh headquarters.
YouTuber ÜberGaming posted footage showing him entering Rockstar North's building, along with photos of police officers who appeared on scene. In a video published yesterday, he described staying at a nearby Marriott hotel and attempting to access the developer's offices directly.
"We were inside the building, where it only took seconds before we were asked to leave," ÜberGaming explained in the footage. "After we attracted attention, the police eventually arrived. They took down our information and asked what we wanted."
According to his account, when he asked officers why they needed his details, they responded that they would contact him if anything about GTA 6 leaked. He then joked about earning "five stars in real life with Rockstar Games," a reference to the game's wanted level system.
It remains unclear whether ÜberGaming genuinely expected to stumble onto unreleased game information, or if the entire affair was orchestrated for views. Either way, the stunt has sparked online discussion and spawned unverified claims about detention or trespassing charges.
This isn't an isolated incident. Last year, a TikTok user posted video of Rockstar North employees being approached and harassed outside the office for game information. The Edinburgh facility has become a flashpoint for unwanted attention as GTA 6 anticipation builds ahead of the game's November 19 launch.
The building itself has seen its share of drama beyond fan antics. In November, workers protested over Rockstar's sudden job cuts, with allegations that layoffs targeted unionized employees. Rockstar denied those claims. In January, fire crews responded to an explosion at the site, which turned out to be a faulty boiler rather than anything sinister.
Rockstar Games' Edinburgh office remains the development hub for the company's flagship franchises, including Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
Author Emily Chen: "Walking into a developer's office to chase game leaks is peak parasocial chaos, but it says something about how rabid the GTA 6 community has become."
