Netflix is banking on escapism this June, rolling out six releases that span rom-coms, K-dramas, reality television, and fantasy adventure. The month offers something for nearly every viewer mood, from workplace romance to prison escape thrillers.
The rom-com wave continues on June 5 with "Office Romance," starring Jennifer Lopez as a tough airline CEO who softens when she develops feelings for a colleague. Brett Goldstein, who wrote the film, plays Daniel opposite Lopez's Jackie in what promises to be a flirty, high-stakes workplace love story. The same day brings "Teach You A Lesson," a Korean drama following unconventional inspectors tasked with reforming troubled students. The series blends action with comedy and interpersonal conflict.
Mid-month reality television returns on June 16 when "America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders" drops its third season. The Emmy-winning docuseries provides behind-the-scenes access to auditions and the full NFL calendar, tracking the squad under longtime senior director Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Trammell.
June 18 marks the premiere of "I Will Find You," a drama featuring Sam Worthington as a man imprisoned for his son's murder who learns the boy may still be alive. Determined to escape and find him, Worthington's character sets the plot in motion alongside a supporting cast including Milo Ventimiglia, Britt Lower, and Erin Richards.
Zoey Deutch takes center stage on June 19 in "Voicemails For Isabelle," a rom-com built on an unusual premise. Deutch's character, Jill, leaves continuous voicemails for her deceased sister without realizing someone else now owns the number. Nick Robinson plays Wes, the new owner, who becomes romantically interested in Jill even as he grapples with whether to reveal the truth about Isabelle's phone.
The month closes with "Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2" on June 25, reuniting the live-action adaptation's ensemble cast. Aang must master earthbending to bring an end to the ongoing war, with Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, and Daniel Dae Kim returning for the continuation.
Author Jessica Williams: "Netflix's June slate understands that summer couch time isn't just for winter anymore, and the mix of star power and genre variety makes it hard to pick just one."
