Anthropic Vaults Past OpenAI With Massive $65 Billion Funding Round

Anthropic has secured $65 billion in fresh capital, catapulting the AI startup to a $965 billion valuation and cementing its position as the most valuable artificial intelligence company in the world, ahead of rival OpenAI.

The Series H round, among the largest private funding deals ever completed in tech, was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital. OpenAI, the previous leader in valuation, sits at $730 billion following its most recent funding assessment.

The funding injection marks a striking inflection point in the race to dominate generative AI. Anthropic's run-rate revenue crossed $47 billion this month, reflecting explosive growth in demand for its Claude chatbot products and services.

Anthropic plans to deploy the capital toward expanding its computing infrastructure, advancing safety and interpretability research, and scaling Claude deployments across enterprise and consumer markets. The round includes $15 billion in previously committed investments from major cloud providers. Amazon alone contributed $5 billion, while semiconductor maker Micron Technology, which recently eclipsed a $1 trillion market capitalization, also participated.

Krishna Rao, Anthropic's chief financial officer, said in a statement that the funding enables the company to meet surging demand while maintaining its position at the forefront of AI research and embedding Claude deeper into workplace applications.

Author James Rodriguez: "This valuation leap signals genuine competitive momentum, but the real test will be whether Anthropic can convert runway into lasting revenue leadership."
